Join the Central Blues

Come have a kick, we'd love to meet you

The oval ball thing can take a little getting used to.

If you've never played Australian football before, that's fine. If you've played for years, that's fine too. We've had players come to the Blues from all sorts of sporting backgrounds, and plenty who had never picked up a footy before.

Come to training, meet some people, learn the basics, and kick the footy. Then decide if it's for you.

Come try a session.

there's No Wrong Way to Start

New to footy?

You don't need to know the rules before you arrive. We'll get you started with the basics: kicking, handballing, marking, positioning and how the game actually works. Nobody expects you to know your torp from your speccy on day one.

Coming from another sport?

Footy has a bit of everything. Soccer players will recognise the running and positioning. Rugby players will know what to do with a contested ball. Hockey players tend to enjoy the pace. Basketball players usually aren't too worried about finding space. And then there's everyone else.

Played before?

Played in Australia? Another Canadian club? At university? Ten years ago?

Come back. You don't have to explain where you've been. Just bring your boots.

What does being a blue Actually involve?

There's more to the Blues than what happens on game day. You can be part of the club whether you're playing every week, filling in when you can, helping out behind the scenes or simply getting involved with the people who make the club what it is.

Play

Competitive summer footy

The Blues play in the Ontario Australian Football League through the summer, with games against clubs from across the GTHA and Ottawa. We also participate in exhibition tournaments travelling across Canada.

Train to learn the game

Improve your skills

Training is where you'll learn the game, meet the team and get better.

Pre-season runs through the winter and spring before we head outdoors for the season.

No Play?

You don't have to be on the field to be part of the club.

Take photos. Help with socials. Run water. Help on game day. Coach. Organise an event. Help set things up.

There is  always something that needs doing.

The First Few Steps

01 - Get in touch

Fill out the form and we'll send you the details for an upcoming session.

02 - Coming to training

Show up, meet the team and have a kick. Your first session isn't a tryout. It's a chance to see what footy is about and whether the Blues are for you.

03 - Keep Coming

If you like it, come back. You'll learn more each week, meet more of the team and start figuring out where you fit on the oval.

Missed a few weeks? Someone once waited ten years (literally!) between their first and second practice. You can't beat that.

04 - Become a Blue

When you're ready, we'll help you through registration and get you set up for the season.

A few things you might be wondering

Do I need experience?
No. Most of us started with absolutely no experience.

What should I bring? Comfortable athletic clothing, a water bottle and appropriate footwear (boots or sneakers). We'll provide the footballs and training equipment.

Is footy a contact sport?

Yes. Competitive footy includes tackling and physical contests. We'll introduce new players to the skills and contact as they learn the game.

Can I join during the season?
Yes. We're happy to hear from new players throughout the year.

Do I have to play every week?
No, but we'd love you if you did. People have jobs, travel, other sports, families and the occasional reason to disappear for a weekend.

How old do I have to be?
The Blues' senior program is for adults (16 years old with a guardian's permission).  Looking for footy for a younger player? Check out  Auskick program.

Pride Round

Once a blue, always a blue

Some people are with the Blues for a season. Some stick around for years. Some disappear for a while and turn up again when they miss footy.

The club has been part of Toronto's Australian football community for more than 20 years, and hundreds of players have come through the Blues in that time.

There isn't one way to be a Blue.

Come for the footy. Stay for whatever comes next.

Come to a training session and meet the team.
