2014 Women’s Player of the Week #4
With no game scheduled this week for the Lady Blues, the women had the opportunity to take part in a Canada Day exhibition match yesterday against the Canadian National Team. This game brought out an impressive number of 13 Blues women – the highest showing of ladies from teams in the Eastern league (not to brag!). This weeks POTW was one of the 13 women to step up and play in the Canada Day match. She is known for her strong defensive play and boy is she a force to be reckoned with! Between her overhead carrying of the ball, beast-like tackling, and her infamous defensive ‘push away’ arm tactic – this week’s POTW is Fiona ‘Rage’ McDonald!

Between running half-marathons and being a full-time grad student, Fi helps to hold down the Blues defensive line by challenging any players that come her way. Did I mention how aggressive this girl is and how much she LOVES to tackle!? She has shown incredible improvement since joining the Blues late last season as a player new to the sport. Fiona is also a highly committed player; attending nearly every training sesh this season and pre-season.

Despite injuring herself in yesterday’s exhibition match, this girl still kept a huge smile on her face while holding back the tears. That’s just how strong she is! I’m sure she will bounce back quickly and be back to tearing up the field in no time.

Congrats on being our Player of the Week and get well soon, Fi!
