AFL Ontario Round 8 – vs. Toronto Dingos

Round eight was a mixed day for the Blues, with Family Day resulting in losses to men’s teams but the second consecutive win to the women’s side.

The women played first and defeated the Etobicoke ‘Roos for the second time in two weeks. A heaps good list of 22 players for the Blues defeated the ‘Roos 7.8.50 to 3.2.20. The Ladies had a huge bench as the game was played 12-a-side to accommodate the ‘Roos smaller playing list of 11. The match saw three players debut with Liza Topounova, Elizabeth Gao and after close to a year of waiting on the sidelines, Maeve Kehoe. This was also the first victory under Coach Rob Guerra, who was absent for their maiden victory the previous week.

Steph Tolev and Amy Agulay Buchmann were the Top Contributors, while Jen “Red Rocket™” Nicholls (she has red hair and she’s fast) received the Best on Ground. Ashley Grant, Red Rocket™ and Sherelle “Squizza” Kelly-Witt kicked two goals each and Miranda “Ray Jay” Voth kicked one.

Despite the dreary weather and mixed results, Family Day was a success and included a bouncy castle, a wading pool, a slip’n’slide and the skilled Marcus on the grill making delicious burgers. Next week the Blues will be looking for a trifecta against the High Park Demons with the men bouncing back with emphatic victories and a third consecutive win for the Lady Blues!

Really, really, really ridiculously good kicking.
Blue Steel.
